La Raza Celebrates Clients' Success

Our clients (now new citizens and voters) came to celebrate with us and have cafesito and pan dulce!  We handed out certificates of recognition that read: "La Raza Centro Legal se enorgullece en celebrar a la persona por su exito en obtener su ciudadania!  Si Se Puede!"  (La Raza Centro Legal is proud to celebrate the mentioned individual who had success in obtaining their citizenship!  Yes you can!!) In addition to having breakfast together each client talked about how the citizenship process was for each one of them, how they are excited to vote in the upcoming elections, and also how grateful they were to La Raza for the comprehensive services we provided to them. During the past year, La Raza Centro Legal assisted 35 clients in obtaining their citizenship.

Our immigration program focuses on providing clients a complete range of services for their citizenship needs.  We start with the initial screening for eligibility as well ordering of FBI report and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to investigate whether an individual has any deportability or inadmissibility issue which would affect their ability to naturalize.  Next we provide citizenship classes for the civics and English reading or writing portion of the citizenship exam with a particular focus on ESL classes and focus on senior citizens.  For those that are disabled we provide top level disability certification advocacy.  Furthermore for those individual who are classified as extremely low income and that can provide proof of public benefits or extreme financial circumstances we prepare an application for a fee waiver, in which if approved, the costs of applying for citizenship are waived by immigration (USCIS).  We also provide a mock interview and exam for our clients so that they are familiar with the process they will encounter at a citizenship interview.  Most remarkable about our services is that we go to each and every citizenship interview with our clients and represent them in front of a USCIS officer.
