La Raza Centro Legal Congratulates Honorable Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers

We congratulate the Honorable Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on her recent appointment to the U.S. District Court of Northern California. In November 2011 the Senate voted 89-6 to approve President Obama's nomination of Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers. Judge Gonzalez Rogers will fill the vacancy created by Judge Vaughn Walker's retirement in February 2011. Judge Gonzalez Rogers is the first Latina U.S. District Court Judge in Northern California. Judge Gonzalez Rogers earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1987, graduating cum laude and her law degree from the University of Texas in 1991. After graduating from law school, Judge Gonzalez Rogers practiced civil litigation with the law firm of Cooley Godward LLP in San Francisco from 1991 to 2003 and became an equity partner, one of the first Latina law partners of a major law firm. Thereafter, Judge Gonzalez Rogers was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court bench in 2008. Judge Gonzaleze Rogers is a former Board member of La Raza Centro Legal and has been active in La Raza Lawyers Association and other Latino groups. Judge Gonzalez Rogers rose from modest beginnings and worked her way through Princeton, cleaning homes and cutting lawns to help pay her tuition. Felicidades Judge Gonzalez Rogers!
