La Raza’s 42nd Anniversary Celebration

La Raza Centro Legal’s 42nd Anniversary event on June 19, 2015, at The Galleria in San Francisco was a rousing success!  Everyone in attendance was inspired by our dynamic keynote speaker Jeff Adachi, SF Public Defender, and an award ceremony honoring the achievements of individuals and institutions leading the charge to promote social justice. The evening of celebration ended on a truly charged note as our guests literally danced into the night with the accompaniment of the salsa band Rumbache Sextet!  We thank our many sponsors of our 42nd Anniversary!

Approximately 300 of our loyal supporters, civic leaders, sponsors, public dignitaries, and current and past clients joined in the celebration of La Raza’s evolution from its humble beginnings in 1973 as an initiative born out of the civil rights and Chicano movements to an agency which, today, offers a full spectrum of economically and culturally accessible legal services to the Bay Area’s Latino, low-income and monolingual Spanish-speaking and immigrant populations.

Our 42nd Anniversary celebration also served to demonstrate the strong support the organization has within the philanthropic community. Not only did the event generate a record-setting $80,000 in donations – exceeding our goal – but, additionally, $15,000.00 in pledges earmarked for La Raza’s newly-launched Sustainability Fund 2020 initiative. The Fund marks a new direction for La Raza’s development strategy as the agency focuses on long-term sustainability through the generation of philanthropic investments which will ensure that we build the systems needed to strengthen our funding sources and sustain the agency over time so as to provide legal services that will have the greatest impact on the communities we serve. We are determined to continue to remain strong while on the vanguard of social justice – fighting on behalf of those members of our community continually victimized by gentrification, worker exploitation and immigrant disenfranchisement.
