Lydia Lopez, Executive Director

Before joining La Raza Centro Legal (LRCL) as Executive Director in October 2017, Lydia Lopez served on the LRCL Board from 2014-2017. Prior to that, she worked with 50 unaccompanied minors in deportation proceedings through the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights (LCCR) Immigrant Justice Program until spring 2016, filing asylum and SIJS applications. Before joining LCCR, Lydia represented asylum seekers through East Bay Sanctuary (EBSC), from 2006-2014. Lydia also filed follow-up applications including family petitions, adjustment of status, waivers, and naturalizations during her time at EBSC. In 2013, she launched the group citizenship program at EBSC, as part of the East Bay Naturalization Collaborative, part of the New Americans Campaign. In 2010-2013, Lydia concurrently worked at Habitat for Humanity (SF), and implemented a Homebuyer Readiness Program focusing on financial advice to prospective home buyers.

Lydia grew up in Guatemala and Belize, and she holds a J.D. from UC Berkeley’s School of Law (Boalt Hall) and a B.S. in Political Science from Stanford University.
