Immigration Removal Defense Program
Immigration Removal Defense Program
The Immigration Removal Defense Program provides free legal services to Bay Area presents in removal proceedings. We also serve Bay Area residents detained at California's Central Valley detention centers.

Removal Defense Services
Full Representation in Immigration Court
We have limited capacity to offer full representation to individuals in immigration court. We are currently prioritizing San Francisco residents.
Limited Services
We have a waitlist for individuals who need help with one-time filings, such an asylum or work permit application. We typically contact people off the waitlist within a month.
Consultations
We provide free legal consultations for both detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings.

Habeas Petitions

We are taking referrals for habeas petitions, which are lawsuits against the government for illegal detentions, for San Francisco residents.

To access our removal defense services, please call our front desk at (415) 575-3500. Before calling, have your Alien Registration Number ready.

Internships

The Immigration Removal Defense Program is accepting internship applications from undergraduate and law school students for spring 2026, summer 2026, and fall 2026. If you are interested in applying, please e-mail a cover letter and resume to info@lrcl.org. State in the cover letter if you speak Spanish and if there is any particular area of immigration removal defense you are interested in.
